  • MARINA & LEISURE NEWS Q1

MARINA & LEISURE NEWS Q1 NEWS Marina & Leisure MARINA & LEISURE NEWS Q1 8 July 2024 at 11:27:30 Ahoy there Skipper! Have you missed us? Well, worry no longer, we are back with a splash… and a hop, skip and jump. In this, our latest news piece, we’ll be recapping the Marina projects that we’ve been working on over the past few months, taking you on a journey across land and sea starting in the UK and ending all the way in the land of Norway. And this time, we’re giving you even more! With a recap of our latest projects in the Leisure industry too. Buckle up… Our first project is one with two decades of history… We first started working with boatfolk in the early 2000s as they started to build their network of innovative UK boating locations. Now, they boast a network of 11 marinas across the UK, with facilities to engage every kind of boat folk out there. Today, we’ll be focusing on two exciting new projects that will be soon underway at Royal Quays Marina and Conwy Marina. Royal Quays Marina Over the years we have continued to see the marina industry grow, and this project is a great example of exactly that. Voted Yacht Harbour Association’s ’Marina of the Year’ for 2019, 2020, 2022 and 2023, it’s no wonder that Royal Quays Marina was feeling the need for expansion. As part of an ambitious project to develop their six pre-existing piers and the addition of two more, boatfolk reached out to us to supply and install electricity, water and safety hardware. In total we will be supplying them with just shy of 80 Classic Service Pedestals, ranging from 16amp to 32amp single phase outlets with Smartcard meters - to facilitate smooth customer payment. As well as, eight stainless steel distribution units, seven classic SOS pedestals and 18 galvanised steel water stands. All of which will be installed on-site by our dedicated team of marina engineers and supported by a sophisticated electrical cable and water system. Conwy Marina Built in 1994, Conwy Marina is located in North Wales adjacent to the renowned Conwy Golf Club making it the perfect location for sailing and golf enthusiasts alike. As part of their boatyard refurbishments, boatfolk again contacted the Rolec team to supply and install a new electrical distribution network. Their new network will be made up of seven fixed and seven portable Quantum service pedestals with a mix of four and six 16amp single phase outlets. All of which will, again, be fitted with Smartcard metering facilities. Further supported by a GRP mains panel, 3 GRP distribution units and a comprehensive electrical cable system. Vollen Marina Situated West of Oslo, Vollen Marina hosts some of the most incredible views of Norway’s coastline. As part of their 2021 expansion, the team at Vollen Marina connected with our local distribution partners to provide utility pedestals for their permanent berths and to support their new venture of adding 30 guest moorings for visitors. As part of this project, we supplied the marina with a total of 49 Quantum pedestals over 3 years. 42 service pedestals to meet the needs of their permanent/long-term moorings and 7 additional units for their new guest wing. Units in their guest section were also fitted with a booking and payment system for the sale of harbour rent, showers, washing machines & dryers, training rooms and access control to the service building. Gatton Waters Caravan Park Run by the Donaldson family for over three decades, Gatton Waters’ 24-acre site is nestled in the heart of the West Norfolk countryside, just a short drive from Norfolk’s famous coastline. Over the winter, the team at Gatton Waters took on the massive undertaking of completely refurbishing the site ready for their reopening in time for the busy season in Spring 2023. The project was carried out by our dedicated team of engineers, who installed a total network of 118 smart meter hookups and smart cards. Keep your eye out for the full case study, coming soon! Shortferry Caravan Park With storm Babet finally behind us and storm Jocelyn on the near horizon, it is fair to say that a lot of caravan parks across the UK have been dealing with the fallout of these bad weather systems. One such caravan park is Shortferry. After a sitewide flood at the end of last year left all of their existing hookups underwater, Shortfeerry reached out to us to not only replace their damaged units but also come up with a solution to prevent the same problem arising in the future. The resulting network consisted of just over 90 16amp hookups and mounting posts. A brand new distribution unit and sitewide installation. To prevent further damage to units, each of them were fitted with extended length cables so that they could be raised above the floodline if the area floods again. We are also replacing 21 damaged units within the touring area, with a mix of 2-way and 4-way 16amp classic touring pedestals with Smartcard metering. And that’s a wrap on this quarter’s news! We hope you have enjoyed catching up with us on all things Rolec Marina & Leisure. Keep a lookout for the next installation. • Powering St. Modwen for a Greener Future

Powering St. Modwen for a Greener Future BLOG EV Charging Powering St. Modwen for a Greener Future Chloe Sharp 8 July 2024 at 11:49:43 A hands on approach As one of the longest standing EV chargepoint manufacturers in the UK, we have cultivated an extensive repertoire of projects globally. Working alongside not only developers like St Modwens but also those of Skanska, KIER, Goodman, Balfour Beatty, and more. Which has meant developing an adaptive approach to electric vehicle hardware that best meets the needs of businesses and developers. And for us, this starts with unit design. By prioritising British manufacturing and developing a team of dedicated research and development engineers, we have our hand in all aspects of product testing and design. Constantly adapting our chargepoints to meet the needs of different industries and building designs. Diverse product range Units are divided into two groups: pedestals and wall-mounted units. Each of which has benefits for different use cases. Pedestals, for example, are optimal for shared locations, like workspaces and residential estates. They are designed to optimise available floor space by charging up to 4 cars simultaneously, have increased visibility thanks to their LED amenity lighting and eye-catching design. On the other side of the coin, wall-mounted chargers (like our SecuriCharge unit) are the optimal choice for locations with less available floor space, such as underground car parks. Something that can also be a major consideration when installing hardware in more confined spaces. Increasingly more important following the introduction of Part S, all major new developments need to designate a minimum of 20% EV parking (with charging) for visitors to the site. Something that can provide a unique set of challenges. Our 15 years of industry experience has perfectly positioned us to advise you through this process, from project conception to installation, and ongoing support. Support every step of the way Our team of specialist support staff, dedicated account managers and residential chargepoint experts are poised to provide you with all the information you need to make an informed decision about the future of charging at your development or business. As such, we offer CPD-Accredited support that includes industry insights, statistics, trends, updates to regulations, and the latest product developments related to our EV charging solutions. We understand the importance of preparing you with all the information before embarking on your project, which is why we also provide BIM & CAD packages, to make it easier to visualise chargepoints in your design, before even breaking ground. Combined with our sophisticated hardware designs, when your project does begin, the installation process will be as quick and seamless as possible. Our units are designed with completely removable front panels, to provide ample access to their internal hardware, to make installation and maintenance easier. And we work alongside smart back-office software providers to ensure users and operators have access to smart features that enhance the charging experience. Supported by smart hardware, like RFID cards and MID-approved metering for accuracy of monitoring and billing. Keeping it green Despite Rishi Sunak’s disappointing pulling away from the UK’s ambitious net zero aims, sustainable transport has continued to be an industry that has sustained growth thanks, in majority, to the fleet and logistics sectors. The prime minister’s announcement seems to have had no impact on the public’s desire for environmental change and businesses continue to champion electric vehicles as the future for their fleets. We, as a company, have set ourselves our own environmental aims: reducing waste by transitioning to 100% recyclable packing. Something that has already turned heads in the industry, being awarded commendations at the most recent UK Packaging Awards. Convenience is key A recent BVRLA report showed that nearly half of the company cars delivered in the first three months of this year were battery electric vehicles. And this growing appetite among fleets has also had an impact on charging behaviour. We have been seeing an increased demand for fleet DC charging, as operators want to reduce the time vehicles remain idle. In response to this we have remained a reliable source of DC hardware, providing scalable solutions with short lead times to support a speedy transition to green travel. All of which are easy to install, maintain and come with the full Rolec support package. Rolec EV remains one of the largest manufacturers and suppliers of smart OCPP compliant AC fast and DC rapid chargers. Our extensive stock holding enables us to offer next-day delivery across our AC range and just 3-5 day delivery on the DC range of stocked chargers. • Electric Boat Charging; A Marina’s Guide

Electric Boat Charging; A Marina’s Guide BLOG Marina Electric Boat Charging; A Marina’s Guide 8 July 2024 at 11:43:53 Rolec have been designing and manufacturing outdoor electrical equipment for over 3 decades and have been on the forefront of technological advancements at every junction. Our work with the boating sector has been no different, leading to the development of a vast range of waterside electrical, sanitation and emergency services equipment bespoke to the needs of any marina. Within this range of products, of course, sits our range of charging solutions for electric boats and cars. The former of which we will be diving into in this piece. Electric Boat Charging Through the Years Similar to the developments in EV car charging over the last 50 years, electric boat charging has welcomed some exciting new technology that has already improved the overall user experience. Increased battery storage, increased automation, and developments to motor technology to name a few. As a result, there have also been advances in charging technology. Where there was once only AC, 3-pin charging, there are now high-powered fast DC chargers with the capacity to produce up to 360kW of power direct to your boat. Which, paired with advances in battery technology, has revolutionised the boating industry’s capacity to provide green vehicles. Furthermore, developments in battery management software have allowed for increased visibility over your charging network and advanced real-time user data. Allowing operators to prioritise charging for certain boats, monitor charging status in real-time and adjust the distribution of site electricity all on one integrated platform. Not to mention the environmental benefits of making the oceans green. As a society we have seen vast improvements in lowering ocean pollution, through national beach clean ups, investment in offshore wind and much more. And electric boating is one of the newest initiatives symbolising a change in tides for carbon reduction. AC vs. DC Charging (Charging Times and Cost) When deciding on a charging solution that suits your needs, it is important to understand the key differences between AC and DC charging. Notably, the main distinction between the two is charging speed. AC charging is, by nature, slower at filling your batteries than DC charging. However, the decision on what to choose is more nuanced than just speed. AC charging, for example, is championed as the more battery-friendly option for electric boat charging, due to its gentler approach to electrification. On average, an AC charger can take between 8-10 hours to provide a full charge, and as such is best suited for overnight charging. Or for boat owners who are setting out on the water less often or at a much slower pace. They are also the more cost-effective option, both in unit price and electrical usage. The electrical draw of an AC charger being significantly lower than their DC counterparts means that charging hardware doesn’t need to be as substantial, saving space and money. Additionally, overnight charging also allows the user to take advantage of favourable electricity tariffs. Translating to an overall cost-saving for the user. DC charging, however, is most recognisable for its rapid charging speeds. Comparatively, a DC chargepoint could provide an 80% charge in as little as 20 minutes, and an average of between 20-60 minutes. The benefits for boating rental agencies, larger vessels, and more frequent users (such as water taxis) are clear - a reduction in boat downtime. They are also fully configurable, upgradable, and scalable to meet any of your marina’s needs now and in the future. With this considered, for most electric boaters an overnight AC charger is sufficient. However, for the keener skippers amongst you, a combination of AC fast charging with ad hoc DC rapid top-ups is a great option. Think, AC for need and DC for speed. Finding the Right Charging Station for You Now that you have a clearer idea of whether AC or DC charging is the right fit for you, it is time to start considering what other features you are looking for in your electric boat chargepoints. Considerations such as durability, accessibility, and aesthetics, are likely to make up a large part of your decision. For example, the unit needs to be able to withstand the daily wear and tear present at a waterside location where weather is unpredictable, and traffic may be high. For this reason, it is important to look for units manufactured with more durable materials, like aluminium and steel, that are industry tested in combination with a generous warranty and maintenance policy. It is also important to consider how charging hardware will work within your marina network. Both aesthetically and in relation to accessibility. Features such as built-in LED amenity lighting, therefore, will not only fit the overall look and feel of your waterside location, but also provide a pivotal function in increasing unit visibility.
