Take Your EV on Holiday: New Destination Charging, Funded by Wattif & powered by Rolec BLOG EV Charging Take Your EV on Holiday: New Destination Charging, Funded by Wattif & powered by Rolec 17 January 2025 at 15:20:02 Strategic Partnership In 2023, Rolec and Wattif EV announced their strategic partnership with an ambitious plan to provide fully funded EV chargers to businesses nationwide. By combining Rolec’s comprehensive range of chargepoint hardware with Wattif’s sophisticated software and variety of funding opportunities, the partnership offers a fully turnkey solution to customers. In the months following the announcement of their joint aims, Rolec and Wattif have completed several high-profile installations for clients such as The Motorist, Waveney River Centre, and Mullingar Golf Club, with no plans of slowing down. EV Charging Comes to Holiday Parks Along the Devon Coast The latest projects on the docket for the pair has taken them to West Dorset, where they have implemented an extensive number of installs and upgrades, to bring electric vehicle charging infrastructure to holiday parks across the Devon coastline. Bringing convenient and accessible EV infrastructure right to the doorstep of holiday goers’ homes-away-from-home. Allowing them to enjoy their vacation with the security of knowing they have easy access to charging. Growing Demand for EV Charging in the Leisure Industry According to a survey conducted by the Department for Transport into the habits of electric and/or PHEV drivers, almost all respondents had access to a home charger and 90% of those drivers chose to charge their vehicles overnight. Which is why it’s no surprise that the leisure industry has widely adopted guest and visitor EV charging as part of planned site refurbishments this off-season. By making chargepoints available to both guests and open to the local network of sustainable drivers, with pay-to-charge facilities, holiday parks can easily increase revenue. Darren North, National Sales Manager, from Rolec, said: ‘Rolec’s strategic partnership with funding provider Wattif makes adding EV charging to your site plans easier than ever. Together, we offer a variety of funding solutions, including fully funded, part-funded, and subscription options for chargepoint purchase, installation, management, and software. Meaning your business can install the latest electric vehicle infrastructure without capital expenditure or investment risk. It’s an ideal solution for destinations where access to EV charging is essential. Caravan parks, holiday parks, theme parks, hotels, resorts, shopping centres, sports stadiums, and more should prioritise offering public charging. Whichever model, all operating costs are included and Wattif will take on the operation and maintenance of your chargepoints. So, you can spend less time looking at EV chargepoint management and more time with guests.’ West Dorset Leisure Holiday Estates Golden Cap Holiday Park Installed a combination of Rolec AutoCharge and SecuriCharge units to provide both freestanding and wall-mounted EV charging infrastructure. Installed by the team at ICEE, Wattif provided a turnkey solution to the park, including the cost of surveying, site civils, installation, testing and connection. Sandyholme Holiday Park As part of planned site upgrades, electric vehicle charging capacity was increased to provide over 30 Rolec EV 22kW dual chargepoints, all accessible via the Wattif network. Highlands End Holiday Park Another site upgrade not only provided Highlands End with an additional 3 new chargers, but also upgraded existing charging hardware from 11kW to 22kW, doubling the speed of the available network. Across the wider site, their chargepoint network also featured two 22kW AutoCharge units and two wall-mounted units; a WallPod and a SecuriCharge. Wattif’s Funding and Rolecs’ Product Range Fully funded options offered by Wattif make the perfect solution for businesses who want to provide public EV charging infrastructure but require a Zero CapEx solution. Allowing businesses to benefit from implementing the latest electric vehicle infrastructure without capital expenditure or investment risk and immediately start benefiting from attracting new customers and the additional revenue that comes with offering pay-to-charge solutions to EV drivers. Additionally, Rolec’s expansive range of fully compliant AC and DC hardware makes them the preferred hardware solution for destinations where accessibility is essential. Caravan parks, holiday parks, resorts, hotels, motels, B&Bs, campgrounds, lodges, glamping sites, theme parks, shopping centres, sports stadiums, and more should prioritise meeting accessibility regulations to provide the best service to their diverse customer base. Steve Rees, Managing Director Wattif EV UK & Ireland, added: ‘Rolec’s smart EV charging hardware, combined with Wattif's turnkey offering and funding options, provides the perfect solution for installing and operating EV charging in car parks and across fleets. Improvements to charging infrastructure and access to charge points are key to increasing EV adoption, eliminating range anxiety, and meeting 2030 legislative targets. Wattif UK is keen to address the electric vehicle charging demands across all sectors. Partnering with Rolec and their customers, I know we have a very convincing proposition on smart charging networks. This partnership for Wattif provides Rolec's clients with turnkey funding and operation/service models to help them on their route to net zero and transition to electric vehicle adoption.’ For more information on our fully funded EV charging solutions, click here PREVIOUS NEXT Related Posts Rolec and Wattif form strategic partnership to provide funded smart charging solutions EV Charging Opportunities for Electrical Contractors Electrify your Caravan and Holiday Park

- OCPP Achieves International Standard Status: A Major Milestone for EV Charging
OCPP Achieves International Standard Status: A Major Milestone for EV Charging BLOG EV Charging OCPP Achieves International Standard Status: A Major Milestone for EV Charging 6 November 2024 at 15:35:29 Breaking Down Barriers With the official standardisation of OCPP as IEC 63584, the industry is stepping up its game in interoperability and future-proofing. This breakthrough ensures global interoperability, facilitating continuous communication between chargepoints and management systems across brands and borders. As the demand for compatibility with various back-office solutions continues to grow, it is essential that chargers offer versatility in configuration to integrate effortlessly with any platform. Rolec Leads the Way At Rolec, we’re ahead of the curve with true native OCPP as a standard feature: Rolec EV hardware is designed to adapt to any software, facilitating smooth onboarding to the customer's chosen provider. The chargers are fully controlled by the connected back-office, allowing unfiltered, direct communication and full compliance without any interruptions. Unlike many hardware offerings that rely on cloud-to-cloud connections, Rolec chargers communicate directly with the back-office platform. This means faster, more reliable communication and greater flexibility for operators without third-party dependencies. By eliminating extra cloud layers, often the root cause of outages, we reduce a significant potential weak link and the risk of downtime for the charging network. Our entire range of chargepoints is purpose-built for seamless control and maximum performance, giving CPOs the ability to efficiently monitor and manage their infrastructure while accessing advanced software features with ease. By ensuring that hardware and software work together effectively, Rolec helps customers establish a robust and optimal system. The Future Is Here Stable, scalable, interoperable, and fully compliant. - Car Charging While you Home Bargain; Rolec EV Rolls Out National Public and Fleet EV Charging for UK Retailer
CASE STUDY Car Charging While you Home Bargain; Rolec EV Rolls Out National Public and Fleet EV Charging for UK Retailer Home Bargains Since 1976, Home Bargains have been providing people with a price-conscious place to shop, opening its doors to 4 million customers a week around the UK. Their ethos of quality and affordability is something that was passed down to founder Tom Morris from his family, who had been working in the retail space for generations. Now, with over 500 stores and 22,000 employees, Home Bargains is the largest independent UK grocer. Growth like that doesn’t happen without being adaptive to change and, with the world rapidly shifting towards sustainable infrastructure, the Home Bargains team were looking for a company that could support them in their journey towards a greener future. SCOPE Step one, EV charging infrastructure for their UK car park network. Rolec EV have over 15 years’ experience with EV technology and have been pioneers in the industry – championing the switch to fully electric since 2007. In that time, they have developed a comprehensive range of chargepoints to suit every need with a range of charging capacity - from 7.4kW all the way up to 160kW. As well as options for fleet, domestic and commercial customers. Which made them a perfect fit for Home Bargains who were establishing a charging network that although predominantly would be used by customers looking to charge up their vehicles whilst they shop, also needed the capacity to support the charging of their fleet of delivery vehicles. One of Home Bargains primary concerns was how to manage this dichotomy in their charging network. Mainly, how to segment these payment groups and create cohesive reports for their finance team. SOLUTION To assess the type of hardware Home Bargains needed, we first needed to interrogate the sites requirements – what does the customer journey look like for this specific company and how can charging fit into this? As a high-street retailer, traffic to the site is largely going to be shoppers who are travelling from their home and spending on average 30 minutes to an hour at the store. In this scenario, they would most likely need slower top-up charging. Fleet vehicles, especially fleet delivery vehicles, are slightly different. In that they are performing a higher level of mileage daily and are likely to return to the site with little battery remaining. In this case, access to ultra-rapid charging is essential for maintaining fleet energy levels. Having additional access to fast charging to power up vehicles ready for the next day. With these considerations in mind, phase one of Home Bargain’s ongoing roll-out consisted of a mix of 25 AC fast and DC rapid chargepoints. All of which were designed with bespoke branding, incorporating the company’s brand guidelines. All chargepoints are managed by a smart back-office solution to meet Home Bargains’ specific needs for visibility, providing accurate reporting and allowing them to set different tariffs for their fleet and customers. BENEFIT The hardware Rolec EV has provided for Home Bargains has allowed them permanent access to charging infrastructure at 14 of their UK sites, with plans to roll out their network to the rest of their premises throughout Britain. The decision to implement rapid charging reduced the amount of time delivery vehicles would remain off the road and increased vehicle uptime, optimising fleet charging for their business requirements. And, in advancing the UK’s public charging network, they are encouraging people to make the switch to electric vehicles by making access to charging easier. PREVIOUS NEXT Home Bargains
