Wrexham Council Partners with Rolec and Costelloes to Expand EV Infrastructure

12 September 2024 at 12:36:54

One of Europe’s leading electric vehicle chargepoint manufacturers, Rolec, has entered into a strategic partnership with Costelloes EV Group, combining their offering to provide comprehensive hardware solutions paired with accessible installation options for Wrexham Council’s rollout of EV infrastructure.

This announcement comes on the heels of the newly introduced Electric Vehicle Charging Strategy in Wales, which aims to facilitate increased electric vehicle ownership through installation of public charging infrastructure. As such, the project has secured close to £800,000 of government funding from the Welsh Government’s Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle Transformation.

Over the next 12 months, the council is set to install over 45 chargepoints plus 2 EVCP mobility hubs, consisting of Rolec EV hardware, installed by the Costelloes EV Group. This project will allow the council to increase confidence in the availability of charging infrastructure to meet their joint aim of encouraging Wrexham constituents to make the transition to EV ownership.

Speaking on the project, Andy Beresford, Business Development Manager for Major Projects at Rolec EV, said:

"We are beyond excited to be collaborating with Costelloes EV Group and Wrexham Council on this initiative that is set to enhance public access to EV infrastructure and advance the future decarbonisation of transportation across the borough.

It became clear through engaging in discussions with the team at Costelloes EV that Rolec’s hardware and over three decades of industry experience would make us the ideal partner for this initiative. Where we will be showcasing our hardware, software, and support capabilities for Wrexham County constituents."

David Costelloe, Managing Director of Costelloes EV Group, added:

"We’re thrilled to be appointed to deliver Wrexham County Borough Council’s electric vehicle charging infrastructure, alongside Rolec, installing and operating a full range of EVCPs, as a first step in our partnership to deliver decarbonisation solutions across the county.

With over 30 years of experience in the electrical industry, our team is dedicated to staying at the forefront of new developments and technologies. We take pride in providing exceptional service and support to our customers, ensuring that their needs are met with the highest level of professionalism and expertise."

Cllr David A Bithell, Deputy Leader and Climate Champion for Wrexham Council, had this to say:

"We’re delighted to sign the innovative partnership with Costelloes EV Group, to help us expand and improve upon our network of EVCPs. We want to support our residents to move towards using electric vehicles by providing them with more high-quality, well-maintained charge points across Wrexham, and securing an agreement with an industry specialist will help us to deliver that."
